Catholic Services Appeal

Every Sunday, at all the Masses in our parish, we pray for God’s blessings on the “Catholic Services Appeal” of our Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.  We pray that all will be generous in assisting the Archdiocese as it carries out the multiple responsibilities of the Catholic Church here in Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

Throughout the month of February we have been asked to respond to the needs of the Archdiocese and its local needs. We showed video recordings of the Archbishop’s request.  I hope you watched it.  I know that you receive many requests to assist people in need.  Each appeal has its own worthy goal. The Catholic Services Appeal of the Archdiocese is meant to be of direct help to our own Archdiocese.

The Archdiocese has a significant commitment to help provide Catholic School education to Catholic students. The Catholic Services Appeal is the source for much of the monetary assistance provided to St. John Vianney College Seminary students. The Saint Paul Seminary also depends upon funds from Catholic Services Appeal to educate seminarians in their last four years of study for the priesthood.

The growing diversity of the members of the Archdiocese calls on us to help new members to find a spiritual home in our midst. We want to welcome these new members by finding ways to build on the faith that they have learned in other places.

Participation in our annual Catholic Services Appeal provides helpful assistance to our parishes while also helping the Archdiocese.  The Archdiocese has set a goal for each parish.  Our goal is set at $27,816 for this year. Twenty-five percent of the money collected in the CSA in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish will be returned to us for our needs.

Many of you have already made a gift or pledge to Catholic Services Appeal.  I thank you for your generous response to Archbishop Nienstedt. It is not too late for you to make your gift to the Archdiocese.  I encourage you to do so.
