Christmas 2009
Sunday, December 27, 2009 at 9:06AM
Of all the days of the year, Christmas has a unique charm and spirit of holiness about it. It is a day for special music that we call carols. It is a day of twinkling colored lights and artistic wrapping paper. There are bells and chimes, lights and color, stories of Scrooge and the travel of Magi. We think of the spot where shepherds gathered and a child was born. Christmas is a day of special meaning and mystery. “Merry Christmas” is our greeting as we mark the birthday anniversary of Jesus Christ.
On this Holy Day, may the charm and enchantment of this day lift us up. In your imagination come with me this Christmas day. Let us search for the newborn child. Let us find the child and talk to him. Let us touch him and take delight in him. Jesus is born, that is why this day is so enchanting. Come with me so that we might enter deeply into the spirit of this day.
In this search we should not worry about what to wear or what to say, or how to act. Just come. Be with Jesus. Every thing else will all take care of itself when we seriously search for Christ. To find him we’ll have to go out in the cold and go off into the quiet countryside. He may be hard to find. Make sure you look in the right place. We’ll have to ask for directions – we will have to depend on others. Come, let us look.
Maybe he is over there in that crowd of noisy people. Come with me and speak as the Spirit moves you. My noisy friends, where can we find Jesus? Can you tell us? Their reply comes back: “I’m not really sure. I used to know, but you know how things change.”
Let’s go on. There is a group of hard working and successful people ahead. We ask them where Jesus is and they point to a small church. “Do you know where we can find Jesus?”
Christ, although only an infant, points the way. Jesus walks many paths. Be alert.
Christmas is a special blessing. Embrace it.
